Young Africa Innovates YAI 2026 Nigeria: Guide and Application Steps

Young Nigerians with early-stage innovations now have another route to structured entrepreneurship support, particularly those developing solutions for communities that are often left out of traditional funding opportunities.

Findings by our platform reveal that the United Nations Development Programme, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, opened applications on 1 September 2026 for Cohort 2 of the Young Africa Innovates programme.

The programme specifically targets young Nigerians aged 18 to 35 from underserved communities, young women and persons with disabilities who possess disruptive solutions, prototypes or working samples addressing community or development challenges.

Successful fellows receive world-class incubation, technical mentorship, business advisory services, product refinement support, market-readiness guidance, access to innovation networks and pathways to further grants or investment.

The programme emphasises transforming ideas into sustainable ventures capable of measurable social and economic impact.

Applications are submitted through the dedicated portal at youngafricainnovates.ng, where detailed eligibility criteria and guidelines are published.

Candidates should prepare a concise description of their innovation, evidence of any existing prototype or pilot and a clear statement of how the solution addresses local needs.

Selection prioritises inclusivity and practical viability. Once accepted, participants gain structured support designed to move them from concept to commercialisation, including investor exposure.

The call remains open for a limited window, so interested innovators are advised to register promptly, gather supporting materials and submit complete applications well before any internal cut-off.

This partnership continues to expand access to high-quality entrepreneurship support for young Nigerians who might otherwise lack the networks or capital to scale early-stage ideas.

For applicants, the strongest preparation is not simply having an interesting idea but showing what the solution does, who it serves and why it can realistically develop into a sustainable venture.
