Meta, 3MTT Launch AI Academy Nigeria for Developers and Startups
Meta, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the 3 Million Technical Talent program and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria, has launched AI Academy Nigeria.
The collaboration brings together skill development tracks, a pitchathon for startups, and a developer bootcamp.
An initial group of early-stage teams utilizing Meta’s AI tools were invited to vie for cash prizes, advertising credits, and the opportunity to pitch at a global AI summit.
Foundational skills tracks are designed to drive adoption, while more specialized development-focused tracks are aimed at developers already building products.
This partnership is part of Nigeria’s broader push to scale technical talent across the country.
The overwhelming mode of communication has been through professional networks and channels specific to the programs.
There is also an understanding that an AI economy requires not just cloud and hardware but also talent to design and maintain systems.
The need for technical expertise is growing as firms, startups, and government agencies look to harness AI for customer service, software development, financial services, healthcare, and more.
The application and selection process has been designed to identify and nurture talent beyond the usual clusters found in Lagos.
This has potential to drive more widespread AI innovation as Nigeria’s developer ecosystem currently remains concentrated in Lagos.
However, the ultimate impact of this initiative will be determined by how many participants can utilize the skills acquired to produce products, start businesses, and generate employment.
AI Academy Nigeria therefore represents another step in Nigeria’s growing commitment to building a local expertise in artificial intelligence, and linking skills development to venture building and technology access.
