Egypt Set to Receive €1.5 Billion EU Financial Support Within Days as Final Tranches Approach
Egypt is expected to receive €1.5 billion ($1.72 billion) from the European Union in the coming days as part of an ongoing €5 billion macro-financial assistance package, according to Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
The announcement was made on Saturday during a joint press conference held in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital alongside European Commissioner for the the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica.
Egypt to Receive First of Two Remaining EU Payment Tranches
According to Abdelatty, the upcoming €1.5 billion payment represents the first of the two outstanding installments under the European Union’s financial assistance agreement with Egypt.
The remaining €3 billion balance of the package will be disbursed in two equal payments of €1.5 billion each, with Egyptian authorities hoping that the final tranche will arrive before the beginning of autumn.
The latest payment forms part of the EU’s continued economic support efforts aimed at helping Egypt address financial pressures and implement economic reforms.
