MTN Uganda Introduces Cashless Electric Bus Service in Kira
MTN Uganda has teamed up with EBus Xpress Kiira Ltd to launch a new electric bus route in Kira Municipality, bringing cashless payments to public transportation in the area.
The new service combines electric mobility with digital payments, giving commuters a more convenient way to travel while reducing reliance on traditional cash payments.
New Electric Bus Route Targets Easier Commuting
The initiative is designed to improve the daily commuting experience in Kira by providing passengers with a more comfortable and modern public transport option.
Beyond introducing electric buses, the partnership also brings digital payment technology into the transport system. Commuters can pay for their journeys electronically, making the payment process faster and more convenient.
The move also supports Uganda’s broader push toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation as electric mobility continues to gain attention across the country.
MTN Uganda Highlights Role of Digital Payments
Speaking during the launch, Ibrahim Senyonga, General Manager of MTN Uganda’s Enterprise Business Unit, emphasized the importance of digital payments in creating smarter and more convenient travel experiences.
The partnership brings together telecommunications, digital payments and electric transportation in an effort to modernize public mobility and make everyday journeys easier for commuters.
The launch was attended by Rt. Hon. Eng. Asiimwe Jonard, Minister in the Office of the President responsible for Science, Technology and Innovation, alongside Minsa Kabanda, Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs.
With the launch of the Kira route, MTN Uganda and EBus Xpress are positioning electric and cashless transportation as part of the country’s evolving approach to smarter urban mobility.
